I know that its all over for the 2005 match, but for those all ready to start up for next year's match, any comments in UNC's program. I heard that it was pretty strong, well rounded and the residents were really happy. I would be interested in hearing input.

I'm a 3rd year and am wondering if I even stand a chance at getting into a competitive ENT program next year...

Myself:
School: State medical school (not even ranked)
AOA:...

I really liked both of these programs. UAB has outstanding facilities and the residents seemed happy but the interview seemed a little stuffy. At Mississippi, the residents were happy and the new chairman and faculty seemed nicer and have things moving in the right direction, but the city of Jackson is not the greatest. Any comments?

I interviewed there this weekend, and I was quite impressed by the program. The residents get a ton of experience in the operating room, even in PGY-2, where an intern or a nurse practitioner takes care of the floor work. There seems to be great camaraderie there, and the program is right smack in Center City Philadelphia, so it's well located. It is probably not as strong in research, but for a clinical experience, I think it ranks among the top. I've worked with two alums of the program...

Univ of Maryland's new chairman will be Dr. Scott Strome -- currently a head and neck surgeon at the Mayo Clinic. Dr. Strome is a relatively young, energetic surgeon with a very large research portfolio -- primarily involving head and neck tumor immunology. His father is chair at Cleveland Clinic. I know Dr. Strome and think he is a genuinely nice guy with a great sense of humor. I expect him to be a nice addition to the Maryland program.
